excel formulas to save you time
we love excel. it’s an extremely dynamic tool and it’s incredibly useful in so many different applications. with so many functions and formulas to save you time, it can be difficult to remember them all. so here is a list of useful excel formulas for reference that can help you preform a wide range of tasks:
excel math functions
- sum: adds up a range of numbers
- average: calculates the average of your selected range of numbers
- count: counts the number of cells in a range that contain numbers (this one is great for longer datasets)
- min: will give you the smallest number in a range
- max: will give you the largest number in a range
- median: pulls the middle value of a dataset
- round: rounds a number to the specified number of decimal places (use also roundup | rounddown)
excel date & time functions
- today: puts the current date
- now: returns the current date and time
- date: returns the date based on year/month/day
- time: returns the time based on hour/minute/seconds
- eomonth: gives you the last day of the month
- datedif: calculates the difference between two dates in various units
excel text functions
- left: extracts a specified number of characters from the beginning of a text string (use also right | mid)
- concatenate: turn several text strings into one
- lower: converts all text to lowercase (this one is an in-house favorite, we love lowercase)
- upper: converts all text to uppercase
- proper: capitalizes the first letter of each word in a text string
- len: calculate the number of characters in a text string
excel logic functions
- and: checks to see if all specified conditions are true
- or: checks to see if at least one specified condition is true
- iferror: returns a specified value if a formula results in an error
